- The New Castle County Department of Public Safety hosted a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the New Castle County Police Academy to pay tribute to Lt. Joseph L. Szczerba by officially renaming the building the Lt. Joseph L. Szczerba Police Academy. The dedication to the fallen officer took place one year to the day that he was killed in the line of duty.
