    Fort Delaware kicks off its season Memorial Day weekend, but opens for Saturdays only starting May 2.
    Fort Delaware is open Saturdays in May, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend and Wednesdays through Fridays, June 17 to Sept. 4.
    The fort is accessible by ferry. Pea Patch Island is about a half hour ferry ride from Delaware City.
    There is a schedule of events and programs lined up this season at Fort Delaware. On Monday, May 25, there will be special Memorial Day activities to honor those who have served our country. There will be a memorial service at noon and a presentation entitled “Old Glory.”
    There will also be a Victorian KidsFest on Sunday, June 14. KidsFest activities include games, kid-friendly programs, craft activities, and exhibits including an exhibition game of the Diamond State Base Ball Club, which plays its home games at nearby Fort DuPont State Park.
    Various ghost tours will be offered where the most haunted areas of the fort are visited. The Herons and History Walk provides opportunities to see some Herons, Egrets and other birds nesting on Pea Patch Island. Fort Delaware also hosts Heron watch, POW Weekends, July 4th Holiday: The All-American Pea Patch Family Picnic, and Pea Patch Island Bird Census. As well as, interpretive tours, blacksmith programs, mortar firing, kids day, a circus, a civil war baseball game and 32-pounder seacoast gun.
