220th Anniversary
Old Union Methodist Church
    The Old Union Church Society, established in 1939 to maintain and preserve the church and cemetery properties and to hold an annual worship service, invites the public to attend the 220th Anniversary of Old Union Methodist Church, which was founded in 1789, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11.
    The guest speaker will be the Rev. Rick Gray from Newark, a native Delawarean and graduate of the University of Delaware. His childhood was rooted in the Methodist Church.
    Music will be provided by Janet Miller on the flute, Brenda Metts on the violin and Jean Hatton on the Piano.
    A picnic lunch will  be served in the grove after the service, weather permitting. Hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas will be available for a nominal fee.
    Bricks from the old sidewalk with brass plaques will be available for $10.

October Fest events
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church
    St. Paul’s will host its October Fest of Faith starting with Sisters—Finding Balance, a short-term study, Tuesday evenings or Wednesday mornings. There will be a more intensive 34-week Disciple I Bible study Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings. A two-potluck weekend includes a potluck and TV Game Night, Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 will be Celebration of World Communion Sunday followed by an International Potluck Dinner with your dishes from around the world.
    The Annual Blessing of the Animals will be Sunday, October 4 at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 brings the first Silent Auction immediately after the 11 a.m. worship service. Lunch will be served as attendees will bid on more than 60 handmade and unique items, including hand-crafted decoy and stepping stools, jewelry, relishes, desserts, original paintings, but also include a fishing trip, night in Rehoboth and four tickets to a Philadelphia Flyers game. The auction supports missions in the community and world.

Annual Health Fair
Lee-Haven U.M.
    Lee-Haven U.M. Church will host their 3rd Annual Health Fair Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives will be on hand from Social Security, Compassionate Care Hospice, Christiana Counseling, Diabetic Screening and Del-Tone. Walgreens will give flu shots, for which you will need to bring your insurance card.
    At 10 a.m. there will be a special presentation on cancer updates by Dr. Shila Hayden. Lee-Haven U.M.C. is located at 413 Blackbird Landing Road, Townsend.
    Bible Study is held every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Current study is the book of Romans.

Over 55 group
St. Joseph Parish
    The Over 55 Group of St. Joseph Parish in Middletown will host a Over 55 Group Monday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. They will welcome Carla Pyle, volunteer coordinator for the Historic Odessa Foundation, will talk about the work of the foundation and their Trust – the Historic Houses of Odessa.

Clothing giveaway
Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church
    Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church will host a free clothing giveaway Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Pennington Street in Middletown.

New York City trip
Forest Presbyterian Church
    Forest Presbyterian Church will sponsor its annual coach bus trip to New York City Saturday, Dec. 12, from 7 a.m. to approximately 10 p.m.
    Enjoy the sights on your own, shop, see the great holiday season displays, go to a show, or do whatever else you would like. For those intending to see Broadway shows, the Radio City Christmas program, etc., now is the time to order tickets.
This trip is open to the public.
    Round trip tickets are $55 per seat. To reserve or hold a seat, mail a $10 check to Forest Presbyterian Church, c/o David Matsen, 295 Grears Corner Road, Townsend, DE 19734. Full payment is due Nov. 1. Please write your telephone number and email address on the checks.
    Payments are non-refundable, but you may transfer seats to others. A 50 percent refund will be provided if seats are sold to those on a waiting list, which has been possible for the last four years. Full refunds will of course be made if the trip is cancelled for any reason.

Bible Study
Townsend Free Will Baptist Church
    Join Townsend Free Will Baptist Church for a DVD Bible study about Esther. This is a 10-week Beth Moore Bible study on Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 15. There are two sessions. The morning session is from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and the evening session is from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Tree of Life
Evangelical Lutheran Church
    Tree of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church has moved out of the Broad Street Ministry Center location.    Tree of Life’s new mailing address is: P.O. Box 64, Odessa, DE 19730-0064. The office number is 378-3345.
    Workers are still needed for Saturdays to work on the new building. Sign up this Saturday or any Saturday you can work. If you’d like to help with providing lunch for workers, please sign up. During this transition time, church committee meetings will be held in members’ homes. Call the TOL office number at 378-3345 for more information.
    Congregational Meeting, to give TOL in-person updates and answer any questions about the renovations and move, will take place on the second Sunday of each month. The next one will be Oct. 11.
    All ELCA women are invited Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, for a program about some of the projects of the DE-MD Synodical Women’s Organization, including the Tanzania Well Project.

    Beginning Sunday, Sept. 13, services at Saint Anne’s Church on East Green Street will be Holy Eucharist Rite 1, at 7:30 a.m., Contact Family Service at 8:30 a.m. and Holy Eucharist Rite 2 at 10:30 a.m. Christian Education, for all ages, is at 9:30 a.m.
    On Wednesdays, a Healing Service is celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Town Church, and Evening Prayer is celebrated at 5 p.m. at Old St. Anne’s.

Annual Usher Day
Mt. Pisgah Church
    On Sunday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m., Mt. Pisgah Church will host its Annual Usher Day Celebration with the “Sensational Stars” of Wharton, Md., in concert.
Saturday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m., will be the Gospel “Dress Down” service. Children of Christ will sponsor a evening of praise featuring guest choir and dancers. There will be a free will offering.

    Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. will be the church’s Annual Cale Family Day Worship Experience. The Rev. Alford will preach at 4 p.m. The Gospel Ensemble of Providence United Methodist Church, Elkton, Md., will present a sermon through song.
