The Miss Delaware Organization, an affiliate of the Miss America Organization, is currently seeking contestants for its first preliminary pageant leading to the Miss Delaware 2011 Pageant. Two local titles, subject to the number of participants, will be awarded Saturday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at Possum Point Players Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown. The winners of each title will receive scholarship awards and then compete for additional scholarships and title of Miss Delaware 2011 next June.
To be eligible to compete in a Miss Delaware preliminary pageant, a young woman must be between the ages of 17 (and a high school senior) and 24, a citizen of the United States, have never been married and meet residency requirements for the state of Delaware, or be a full-time student in a Delaware college or university or have full-time employment within the state of Delaware.
The areas of competition include private interview with the judges, talent presentation not to exceed 90 seconds, evening wear, lifestyle & fitness in swimwear and on-stage question. Each contestant is also required to become involved with and be an advocate for a community service issue. The Community Service Platform is a key element of the interview process, allowing the contestant the opportunity to discuss and promote her platform issue.
The Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations are able to offer college scholarship awards to many accomplished young women, empowering them to have a voice, to enhance their public speaking and interview skills, enabling them to express their talents, to be of service to others, and reach a new level of confidence.
