The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces the nighttime closure of both the northbound and southbound directions of I-95 for the installation of two overhead variable message signs (one northbound, one southbound).

Northbound Closures:

Starting Monday, March 28, 2010, through Wednesday, March 30, 2011, the northbound direction of I-95 will be closed from the Route 1/Route 7 interchange to Route 141, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Ramp closures from Route 1 onto Interstate 95 northbound will occur at 10 p.m., and lanes along Interstate 95 northbound will closed at 10:30 p.m., with the entire northbound roadway being closed by 11:00 p.m. All northbound Interstate 95 traffic will be routed onto Exit 4A, Route 1 southbound, to Route 13 northbound, then onto Route 141 northbound, from there traffic will merge back onto northbound Interstate 95. Detour signs and portable variable message signs will be posted. During the closure of Interstate 95 northbound, the southbound direction will not be impacted. In the event of inclement weather, or delay in completion of the installation, Thursday night, March 31, will be reserved as a rain date.

Southbound Closures:

Starting Monday, April 11, 2011, through Wednesday, April 13, 2011, the southbound direction of I-95 will be closed south of Route 141 to Churchman’s Road, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

1. Traffic entering Delaware from New Jersey via the Delaware Memorial Bridge along I-295 will be detoured at the Route 13 exit. Traffic will take Route 13 south to Route 273 west, to Route 1 north back onto Interstate 95.

2. Traffic traveling along Interstate 495 south will be detoured at Route 13 south, and will follow Route 13 south to Route 273 west, traffic will then take Route 1 north back to Interstate 95.

3. Traffic traveling along Interstate 95 south will be detoured at the Route 141 interchange (Exit 5). Traffic will take Route 141 south to Route 13 south, to Route 273 west, traffic will then take Route 1 north back to Interstate 95.

During this phase, two additional overhead signs will be removed. For this work, impacted interchange ramps will be closed starting at 9 p.m. and the major roadways will be closed thereafter with the entire system closed by 11 p.m. and re-opened by 5 a.m. During the closure of Interstate 95 southbound, the northbound direction will not be impacted. In the event of inclement weather, or delay in completion of the installation, Thursday night, April 14, will be reserved as a rain date.
