   Consecutive one-possession games made it a thrilling final night during last Friday’s Appoquinimink Boys and Girls Club winter basketball tournament finals held at Everett Meredith Middle School.

   In the first game, hot-shooting Zach Palmer missed a 3-pointer with two seconds left, securing the Blue team’s 18-15 win over the Black in the 9- to 11-year-old final. Consecutive three-point plays by Blue’s Jason Stewart and Isaiah Bodie fueled the championship run down the stretch, along with Joshua Hudson’s basket with 44 seconds left.

   Stewart and Hudson finished with eight and seven points, respectively, for Blue, and Bodie added three. Palmer scored nine points for Black, followed by Derek Fisher (nine points) and Sakai Younger (one).

   In the 12- to 14-year-old game that followed, the Spartans overcame an early deficit and took a 23-21 event over Black. Black missed several shots in the closing seconds before Shane Anderson secured a clinching rebound.

   Eight players scored in Black’s balanced attack – Shane Anderson and Dimitri Duplan each had five points, Danny Parker and Ryan Anderson added three each, Ryan Connell, Jackson Truitt and Emmanuel Kenion scored two each and Ronnie Kane provided the final point.

   Donivan Ray and Brandon Fraley each scored eight points for Black, Jesse Brown scored three and Marcus Pinkett added two.
