In the ever-changing world of automotive technology, perhaps it is ironic

that First State Chevrolet’s success is based on consistency.

While the cars and trucks on their lot, located just south of Georgetown on

Route 113, may come in different shapes and sizes for different needs, the faces working at First State generally stay the same. That’s why, co-owner Bob Hansen said, he thinks our readers voted First State as the best place to buy a car in Sussex County.

“It speaks to the people we have working here; they are the reason we succeed,” Hansen said. “It’s very rare that people leave here to work somewhere else, and when they do, a lot of times they come back. If you have happy employees, customers are happy.”

Nearly 80 percent of First State’s sales are to returning customers, because like its slogan says, its employees put the customer first, and in an ever-changing economy, Hansen said customer relations are more important than ever.

One change that will occur at First State this year is the showroom’s façade.

Chevy is making an effort to see its dealerships become uniform in front, and First State’s makeover will begin in the coming months. Still, like Hansen said, it’s what’s inside that counts, and that means the same friendly serviceand sales customers have come to expect.

“I’m very happy with the product we have now,” Hansen said. “Right now is a great time to buy a new Chevrolet.”
