George Allen “Buddy” Blanchfield, Sr., 71, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2012 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Townsend, DE on September 19, 1940, son of the late Alvin and Mae (Walbert) Blanchfield.
He began a career with Artesian Water where he retired in 2007 after 42 years of hard work and dedication. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to classic country music on his jukebox, collecting classic model cars, watching western movies and television shows, working out, cutting grass, and spoiling his grandchildren. Buddy was a hardworking man with a big heart. He provided a wonderful life for his family and took pride in how close his family has always been. He was a man that many people looked up to. Buddy was a giving, considerate, strong-willed, and trustworthy person. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy Blanchfield and sister-in-law, Lydia Rhoades Blanchfield.
His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Mary (Sheats) Blanchfield of 51 years; two sons, George Blanchfield, Jr. and his companion, Paulette of Delaware City, DE and Steve Blanchfield and his fiancé, Karen of Townsend, DE; two daughters, Vickie Heverin of Middletown, DE and Dawn Burge and her husband, Ron Sr. of Smyrna, DE; “Pop-pop” to 11 grandchildren, Casey, Holli, Melanie, Ron Jr., Brittany, Shelbee, Al, Zack, Brianna, Reese, and Madison; “GG” to two great-grandchildren, Haidyn (“I love you GG!”) and Harlee; “Uncle Bud” to one nephew, Roy and six nieces, Dolly Ann, Debbie, Brenda, Pam, Kim, and Barbara. He is also survived by his sister Gloria Collins and many dear friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends visited with his family on Tuesday evening, January 24 from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 10-11 a.m. George was laid to rest in Townsend Cemetery.
