  • Last month, the First State Gymnastics Boys Team, the only male gymnastics team in Delaware, took home 10 medals and the Second Place Team Trophy for Level 6 at their West Point competition.
The team of four competes up to six times a year and will be traveling to Temple University Feb. 17 for the Philadelphia Boys Invitational.
At the 2012 West Point Open on Jan. 27, Val Succarotte, 15, won first place for floor, rings and parallel bars and place fifth in the All-Around.
Thirty-eight gymnasts from 14 different gyms along the east coast competed in the same level as the Delaware team.
Timothy Griffith, 13, took sixth on floor and Nicholas “Nic” Varner placed tenth on floor and fifth on vault.
Their fourth teammate Michael Butkus took eighth on pommel and vault and seventh on rings.
Their season goes from October through March, with the state championships in March, but they practice all year round.
