Fred R. “Butch” O’Neal, Sr., 70, a lifelong resident of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
Born on March 19, 1941 at home in Middletown, he was the son of the late Henry I. and Agnes G. (Thorpe) O’Neal.
He was a graduate of Middletown High School. He was a union ironworker and a member of Ironworkers Local 451. In 1995 he retired after 30 dedicated years.
Butch enjoyed many things in life, with his family being his most important. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, country music and watching old westerns on the television. Butch had a passion for restoring furniture and vehicles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mark O’Neal and a stepson, David Hosier.
Fond memories of Butch will be cherished forever by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara; two daughters, Chana O’Neal and her fiancé, Albert Lasavage of New Castle, and Christal O’Neal and her fiancé, Donnie Godwin of Lewes; a son, Fred R. O’Neal, Jr. and his girlfriend, Dawn Day of Middletown; a brother, James “Dick” O’Neal and his wife of Middletown; two sisters, Betty Mae O’Neal of Middletown and Anna “Judy” Martin of Elkton, MD; five grandsons, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held noon on Tuesday, March 20 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends visited with Butch’s family Monday evening, March 19 and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Interment followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
