Allan Roy Emerson, 69, of Clayton, DE passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, May 31, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 8, 1942 in Middletown, DE, he was the son of the late William Elmer and Laura Belle (Graham) Emerson.
Allan worked in carpentry and construction all of his life. After retiring from Ralph V. Cahall and Sons as a heavy equipment operator, he returned to work on his family’s farm for the past two years.
He loved fishing, hunting, raising Nigerian dwarf goats with his wife and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Biddle and two brothers, Ari and William Emerson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lois A. (Whittington) Emerson; his daughter, Anne Thomas and her husband, Ed of Middletown; step-children, Beth McGee, Clay Basham, and Kathy English, all of Smyrna, and Jimmy Greene of WV; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and José Rosario; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Sarah Emerson, Jerry and Phyllis Emerson, and Jimmy and Debbie Emerson all of Middletown, DE; a brother-in-law, Lester I.C. “Bucky” Biddle of Middletown, DE; eight grandchildren, Kameran, Kourtney, Nicole, Ashley, Amanda, Brandan, Elizabeth and Mikey; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Joceyln, as well as by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends were asked visit with his family from 12-2 p.m. Interment will be private.
