  • The M.O.T. Big Ball Marathon will kick off its 15-year anniversary at 6 p.m. June 27 at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Middletown.
For 15 years, the M.O.T. community has been raising money to help neighbors in need with the popular game. All of the money raised go backs into the community by helping local families and individuals in need, charities and other organizations in the Middletown, Townsend and Odessa areas.
The 24-hour, softball style marathon will begin Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. and continue until 6 p.m. Sept. 1.
Last year’s event raised a record amount of donations before the first bat was even swung at the Labor Day weekend marathon.
To commemorate this milestone, there will be some special features to the 2012 event, said Kate Rokosz.
Here are some of the new highlights:
  • Teams and players that sign up to play in the Aug. 31 Big Ball Marathon will have the registration fee wavered.
  • Tim Qualls, of the Tim Qualls Show, will be the event’s honorary emcee.
  • Limited edition Big Ball collector items will be available for purchase.
  • There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and life and silent auctions. The items auctioned will be pieces from a huge online auction that will begin on the Big Ball website in July. These items include autographed sports memorabilia from famous athletes such as Cal Ripken, Joe Montana, and Peyton and Eli Manning.
  • Anyone who brings the coupon on the Big Ball kickoff voucher to Buffalo Wild Wings June 27 will be paying it forward as proceeds from their meal will be donated back to Big Ball to help their neighbors in need.
