  • Police: Fugitive apprehended in Newark had crack and heroin

  • A 37-year-old Newark woman was arrested Saturday evening in the community of Sparrow Run with heroin and crack cocaine, police said.
    At 6:58 p.m. on Aug. 18, police made a traffic stop when a Chevrolet Silverado failed to signal as it turned right from Flamingo Drive onto Heron Court.
    The 32-year-old male driver of the car appeared nervous when police made contact, New Castle County Police said. The female passenger was identified as Tamika Gary.
    Gary, who police said attempted to flee the vehicle but was stopped by an assisting officer, had an outstanding capias issued by New Castle County Court of Common Pleas.
    She was taken into custody and found to be in possession of 86 bags of heroin, totaling 1.72 grams, 20 bags of crack cocaine, totaling 7.36 grams, and a suspected $495 of drug money found in a makeup case in her purse, police said.
    Gary was charged with possession of heroin and crack cocaine.
    She was arraigned and released after posting $3,500 secured bail.
