Robert W. “Bob” Donovan, age 95, of Middletown, DE passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. Bob had worked as a compositor at the News Journal for 25 years. He was a radio amateur for 60 years, call letters W3EDB.
Robert W. "Bob" Donovan, age 95, of Middletown, DE passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. Bob had worked as a compositor at the News Journal for 25 years. He was a radio amateur for 60 years, call letters W3EDB.
Bob was a charter member of VFW Post, having served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Among his awards are the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star.
His wife of more than 60 years, Louise, passed away in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Adelaide Greenhouse and her husband, Dennis; grandson, Michael Kirch, his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Lilith, as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Bob's request was to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. Friends may visit with his family from 10-11 am on Tuesday, September 18 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Immediately following the visitation a committal service will be held in Townsend Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to a charity of choice.
