  • New Castle County property taxes are due Sept. 30, but will be accepted until Oct. 1 without penalty.
The county property taxes and state of Delaware school taxes are due at the end of September, but since the Sept. 30 deadline falls on a weekend this year, payments will be accepted without penalty until Monday, Oct. 1.
After Oct. 1, any balance that remains on accounts will be subject to a 6 percent penalty and a 1 percent penalty each month after.
County property taxes and school taxes are combined into one billing statement. Property owners may pay both amounts with a single check or money order.
The county offers a variety of ways for residents to pay their bills on time and avoid late fees.
    - Checks and money orders can be made out to "New Castle County" using the return envelope that was provided when bills were mailed in July.
    - Payments can be sent by mail to New Castle County Property, P.O. Box 15358, Wilmington, Del. 19886-5358.
    - Cash, check, money order, Discover Card, and PIN debit cards are accepted at the New Castle County Government Center at 87 Reads Way in New Castle from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Sept. 28 and Oct. 1, payment windows will remain open until 6 p.m.
    - A drop box is also available for check and money orders 24 hours a day at the NCCo Government Center.
    - Bills can be paid over the phone with a Discover Card by calling the NCCo Office of Finance at (302) 323-2600.
    - Other major credit cards are accepted through the third-party company Paymentus, which can be reached by calling (877) 225-7351. Paymentus charges users a service fee equal to 2.5 percent of the total payment. Residents can reach Paymentus customer service by calling 1-800-420-1663.
