Drivers should expect major backups on Del. Route 1 and Del. Route 13 near Smyrna this evening as environmental officials work to clean up a propane leak from a tractor trailer on Route 1 in the area.
Del. Route 1 north and southbound lanes near Smyrna have been closed since about 6 p.m., causing major delays this evening, as the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's emergency response team has been on site working to stanch a propane leak from a tractor trailer, monitoring the environment while emptying the tanker of its propane.
Traffic in both directions has been diverted to Del. Route 13. Emptying the leaking trailer by use of flaring equipment is estimated at three to four hours.
