The Newark Jaycees’ Canine Costume Contest will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at Norma B. Handloff Park, 1000 Barksdale Road, to raise money for the Paws and People Assisting Wounded Warriors organization.
PPAWW's places service dogs with veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). The dogs are trained to remind the veteran to take their medication and help calm them when they have flashbacks.
The money raised will go toward Tim Hasko of Bear and his service dog Monte. Hasko was an Army staff sergeant stationed at Fort Bragg for eight years who has been deployed to Iraq three times, and currently suffers from PTSD.
