  • New Castle County Council approved an exploratory minor land development plan and rezoning for Limestone Crossing Oct. 9.
One acre of land in Hockessin opposite of Lantana Drive will be rezoned to Commercial Neighborhood and two existing buildings will be demolished in order to construct a nearly 7,000-square-foot retail building with drive through lanes and parking.
The first floor of the strip will be retail space and the second story will be apartments, said Christopher Nolan, a representative for the Capano Organization.
County council's vote Oct. 9 was unanimous and all members said that they approved the plans because of the positive recommendation from the Land Use Department and that they are consistent with the community's character.
Representatives from the Capano Organization said that the concept looks to construct a project that worked from both an economic and residential point of view.
There will be three- and four- story high apartment buildings in the area behind the strip on Philadelphia Pike.
Originally, the single acre of land south of Valley Road was zoned Neighborhood Conservation.
Councilwoman Janet Kilpatrick (R- Hockessin) introduced the original plans to council in January.
The concept plan has since been studies and rendered because of parking issues.
Originally there was a six-story parking garage planned to provide parking for what was supposed to be a heavy retail area, but this has been changed.
Sufficient parking is planned in the area behind the strip near the apartment buildings. Screened in parking is planned for Manor Avenue.
