A plan to build 175 single-family homes in St. Georges in Red Lion Hundred was approved unanimously by New Castle County Council Oct. 9.
Highpoint at St. Georges received no negative feedback, said Councilman Bill Bell (D- Middletown).
The plan is to situate the development on the west side of DuPont Highway on the east side of Del. Route 1 and to the north of Kirkwood Street.
The 175 homes will be built on 123 acres of land, 50 acres that will be open space.
A community center and pool are planned for Highpoint.
"There is significant open space and it's a well planned community," Bell said at a Land Use Committee meeting Oct. 2.
Transportation will also be nearby the proposed community. A park and ride is located about half a mile north of the land near Wrangle Hill Road.
No sidewalks are currently planned for the nearby U.S. Route 13 area and there is no interconnectivity planned either.
Two parcels of the property will be retained by the property owner and used as farmland. This particular space will be rezoned as agricultural.
