  • Local students to perform at BCS Championship football game

  • A pair of Sussex Technical High School juniors will perform with an all-star marching band during halftime of the BCS National NCAA Championship Football Game in Miami on Jan. 7.
    Ethan Humphreys of Georgetown will play trumpet and Jackie Toggart of Millsboro will twirl a baton in front of more than 80,000 fans during 2013 championship game, officials at the Georgetown-area school announced last week.
    Humphreys is studying carpentry/mill and cabinet technology at Sussex Tech, while Toggart is majoring in landscape management and environmental technologies.
    Students from around the country are selected to participate in the All Star Invitational Marching Band after completing a nomination, interview and video audition process. Selected students will spend six days in Florida and rehearse under the guidance of nationally renowned, collegiate marching band directors.
