No one was injured in a house fire on Old School House Road north of Middletown Friday, but the blaze caused extensive damage.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office has determined that Friday afternoon's house fire north of Middletown was accidental.
Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown was called to the 600 block of Old School House Road between Choptank Road and Summit Bridge Road at approximately 9:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw fire and smoke coming from the home, according to Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Robert L. Fox.
Several other fire companies were called to assist.
State fire marshal deputies investigated and determined that a propane leak inside the home caused an explosion and fire in the crawl space of the basement, Fox said.
The fire caused extensive damage, estimated at approximately $400,000, Fox said.
No injuries were reported.
The residents weren't able to return to the home and are staying with relatives.
