Middletown man killed in Dover collision
- A Middletown man died and his daughter is in critical condition after a Mustang hit them head on in Dover, just south of the Air Force Base.
State Police announced today that a Middletown man was killed in a fiery crash on Del. Route 1 just south of the Dover Air Force Base Nov. 3.
David W. Stoms, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene and his 11-year-old daughter, who was also in the car, is currently in critical condition at a Philadelphia hospital, police said.
A 28-year-old Felton man also died as a result of the Dover crash.
Matthew W. Bair was pronounced dead at Kent General Hospital shortly following the 11:15 p.m. head on collision.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Stoms was driving a 2010 Toyota Yaris north on Route 1 and that Bair was driving south in a Ford Mustang in the northbound lanes.
Both vehicles swerved simultaneously and then struck head one, police said. Both cars then traveled south together after the impact and came to a rest engulfed in flames.
Police said that Stoms was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
Bair was initially admitted to the Kent General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The State Police Collision Unit is continuing their investigation into the crash.
