A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for New Castle County and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued the alert Wednesday morning.
Snow accumulations in northern Delaware could range from 2 to 5 inches and winds may gust up to 50 MPH.
Light rain and snow will continue to fall west and become steadier. As it becomes heavier, it will take the farm of snow, which could fall heavy at times this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Secondary roads are expected to become snow covered and slick.
Winds will be from the north 20 to 30 MPH, and visibilities could decrease to a quarter of a mile during snowfall.
Temperatures will fall into the lower 30's when the precipitation changes over to snow.
A Wind Advisory, a Coastal Flood Advisory, and a Hazardous Weather Outlook have also been issued for the county.
Wednesday's high temperature is expected to reach 42 with daytime snow accumulations of less than half an inch.
Precipitation is expected to continue through Thursday afternoon.
