  • An Elkton man was arrested after police said he stole an elderly woman's car and assaulted her in the Fox Run Shopping Center in Bear Nov. 9.
Police said that Kenneth A Harrington, 41, followed the 76-year-old woman from the Laundromat at 7:30 a.m. as she carried a basket of clean clothing to her car.
As the victim approached her car, Harrington grabbed the keys from her hand, pushed her to the crowd, entered her car and drove out of the shopping center onto U.S. Route 40.
The victim was slightly injured during the assault, but refused treatment on the scene, police said.
Police said that Harrington drove eastbound on Route 40
after leaving the shopping center located at 1968 Pulaski Hwy.
Within seven minutes of the 911 call being made, Harrington was pulled over by a Delaware State Trooper in front of Honda East Motor Sports.
Police found a switchblade in Harrington's pants when they took him into custody.
Harrington was taken to Troop 2 and charged with carjacking, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon.
He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on a $135,000 secured bond.
The stolen car was returned to the 76-year-old woman.
