Bundle up your family for the annual Middletown Christmas Parade this Saturday.
Sparking the official countdown to Christmas, the parade will take place downtown, offering several fun activities for families to dive into, said Tracy Skrobot, program manager for Middletown Main Street, Inc., which has been organizing the parade since 2007, although the parade tradition goes back more than 25 years.
"I always look forward to it every year," beamed Skrobot. "We always get a great response."
The stout parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. at Everett Meredith Middle School, will run until 11 a.m. and include appearances by the lovely winners of the M.O.T. Snowflake Pageant, the Appoquinimink High School marching band, the Middletown High School marching band, Middletown Police Department color guard, Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, Odessa Fire Company, equestrian groups and antique car clubs, as well as everyone's favorite fat-boy-slim (Santa Claus).
Seeing the jolly man is always a treat, since "you never know" what form of transportation he'll get around in at the parade, said Skrobot, adding even she's never briefed on Santa's traveling methods until the day of the event.
More events throughout the day
In addition to the parade, other activities will continue throughout the day, including Santa who'll be present at the Gilbert W. Perry, Jr. Center to take photographs with kids from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Coloring books will also available at The Gibby. Moreover, there'll be arts and crafts at the M.O.T. Senior Center (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), as well as entertainment at Forest Presbyterian Church.
