  • The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will open a new, enhanced free yard waste drop-off site in December at Holland Mulch, 39 Brookhill Drive, Newark, off Route 72 south of Interstate 95.
Holland Mulch signed a contract to accept yard waste from Delaware residents, free of charge for five years. The free option will only be available to Delaware residents bringing yard waste from their own property. Others, including businesses, who dispose of yard waste there will be subject to fees.
The original New Castle County yard waste drop-off demonstration sites were created as temporary locations in 2007 to help transition the Cherry Island Landfill yard waste ban. The Holland Mulch site move is in response to citizen concerns about site maintenance and illegal dumping, plus preparation for the construction of a new Division of Motor Vehicles facility.
Two unmanned, temporary yard waste demonstration sites will close Dec. 3. For more information, or for a list of additional drop-off sites, visit www.dnrec.delaware.gov/yardwaste.
