  • A 9-year-old boy from Georgia was injured Nov. 20 after being struck by a car on Ramunno Drive in Middletown.
At around 5:20 p.m., the boy left the playground on Vincent Circle with a group of children. As they were crossing Ramunno Drive, just south of Ash Boulevard, the group was separated by traffic.
As the 9-year-old attempted to cross the street, a black Kia Sol being operated by John A. Shaw, 44, of Middletown, struck him.
The boy had attempted to cross the road immediately behind a southbound vehicle, and was struck with he entered the northbound lanes.
Shaw was driving at about 15 MPH, police said. He had reduced his speed due to the presence of the first group of children crossing the roadway and for the stop sign at the intersection of Ash Boulevard.
The boy, who was visited from Rome, Ga. was taken to the A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children and treated and released for minor injuries.
Shaw was not cited or charged because police said that the boy had failed to yield right of way to vehicular traffic when he was not in a cross walk.
