The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has penalized Formosa Plastics in Delaware City for air quality violations.
DNREC Secretary Collin O'Mara issued the Notice of Administrative Penalty Assessment and Secretary's Order to the corporation for violations that occurred between Aug. 10, 2010 and July 12, 2012.
The violations were of state and federal air quality regulations, state statute and its permit, said Michael Globetti, a DNREC Public Affairs official.
The Secretary's Order lists nine violations since Aug. 10.
The order includes a cash penalty of $60,500 and an additional $9,075 as cost recovery reimbursement to DNREC for expenses association with the department's investigation, Globetti said in a news release Monday.
The company produces resin that is sold to companies to use in making various products such as containers, flooring and toys.
Formosa Plastics Corporations of Delaware has 30 days to request a public hearing.
Formosa is located at 780 Schoolhouse Road in Delaware City.
