Cogeco Cable has acquired Atlantic Broadband, which services customers in Middletown, Odessa, Delaware City and Chesapeake City, Md.
This marks the Canadian company's expansion into the United States.
Cogeco Cable Inc. announced Nov. 30 that it completed the acquisition of Atlantic Broadband from ARBY Partners, which was announced on July 18.
Atlantic Broadband operates cable systems in western Pennsylvania, southern Florida, Maryland, Delaware and South Carolina and services about 251,000 television service customers.
Atlantic Broadband was the 12th largest cable operator in the United States. The company provides Analog and Digital Television, high speed Internet and telephone services.
Cogeco Cable is the second largest hybrid fiber coaxial cable operator in Ontario and Quebec, Canada.
President and CEO of Cogeco Cable, Louis Audet, said that Nov. 30 was a very important day for the company.
"This acquisition marks our entry into the United States market," Audet said in a statement released Nov. 30.
With the completion of the acquisition, Cogeco Cable now serves for than 2.45 million primary service units in Canada and the United States.
