  • Obit: Hope Ellison Motter

  • Hope Ellison Motter accomplished her dearest wish to die in her home of birth at Noxontown Mill, near Middletown, on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. She was 89 years old.

    She was predeceased by her parents, Rosetta H. and William Y. Ellison and her husband, Ralph E. Motter.

    Her family purchased the Mill, the Mill Pond and the family residence in 1741 from Thomas Noxon.

    She was predeceased by her parents, Rosetta H. and William Y. Ellison and her husband, Ralph E. Motter.
    Her family purchased the Mill, the Mill Pond and the family residence in 1741 from Thomas Noxon.
    After college and business school, she was became the society reporter for the News Journal in Wilmington.  She returned home to help her mother with the boat livery service on their Pond, Noxontown.  After she married Ralph Motter, they retired to the Pond and lived there until their deaths.
    Her family is grateful for the wonderful care by Harry Argoe, Cheri Minix and especially Linda Wilson and her family in the final years of Hope’s life; also the family is grateful for the comfort of her friends and help of Season’s Hospice at the end of her life.
    A memorial service will be held 10 am on Friday, December 14 at Forest Prebyterian Church, 44 West Main Street in Middletown, where a reception will immediately follow.  Interment will be held privately in Old St. Annes Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to the Middletown Historical Society, P. O. Box 567, Middletown, DE 19709-0567 or to the Historic Odessa Foundation, P. O. Box 697, Odessa, DE 19730-0697.
