I’m taking up a little space here to thank my friends for helping me get through the most emotionally draining year I have ever experienced.

I started the year off finishing writing my book, “Beer Lover’s New England,” and my friends were always supportive of the effort, despite the exhausting work in the last few weeks. Stress was at high levels until it was done.

You were also all there for me when my mother had to be rushed to the hospital in April. Unfortunately, my mother was never able to come home again and passed away in August.

My mother was so proud of me writing the book, and I’m glad she got the chance to see it.

For those who know me, they know my mother, Donna, was the most important person in my life, and I was devastated.  I don’t know how I would have gotten through the pain of losing her without my friends.

The year did have a lot of highlights, mainly through beer. Not just drinking, but about the connections I made.

I made some true friends – other beer writers, brewers and just plain better beer drinkers – in 2012. My friendships with them blossomed from beer buddies to real friendships.

Ben Roesch and Tom Oliveri of Wormtown Brewery were kind enough to name a beer after me, Norm. It was one of the nicest things that anyone has ever done for me. I found out about that about two weeks after my mother has passed.

I know this is a little rambling, but I couldn’t let 2012 escape without thanking everyone. So thank you.

See you in 2013.
