  • Townsend fire ruled arson

  • Dejuan Saunders, 24, was arrested by the Deputy Fire Marshal for the Jan. 5 fire and charged with second-degree arson.

  • A fire that caused $40,000 in damage to a Townsend home has been ruled arson by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
    Dejuan Saunders, 24, was arrested by the Deputy Fire Marshal for the Jan. 5 fire and charged with second-degree arson.
    The Townsend Fire Company was called to the fire at 45 Cole Rd. around 12:30 p.m.
    The home in the Meadow Vista community was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke when fire personnel arrived, according to the Fire Marshal's office.
    Saunders is also awaiting arraignment on unrelated charges from the Wilmington Police Department.
    The Red Cross of Delmarva is assisting one resident who was affected by the blaze.
    No injuries were reported.
