  • A group of local residents aiding victims of Superstorm Sandy will continue to collect donations through Jan. 12.
Cecile DiNozzi, a Middletown resident, started the effort to help a life long friend of hers who lives in Queens.
"Her neighborhood has suffered greatly," DiNozzi said.
All of the donations collected have come from individual residents and have been transported to New York to be distributed in Far Rockaway.
So far, four large trucks overflowing with donations have been sent up to New York.
"We were driven to send four trucks because donations poured in at a fast rate and we wanted to make sure that they reached their destination as soon as a truck was loaded," DiNozzi said. "The folks in this area were in dire straights and were cold and starving."
Food, water, clothing, blankets, diapers, assorted breads, and more have been sent from Middletown to Queens.
"We started the weekend after the storm and haven't stopped since," she said.
Anyone who would like to donate to the victims of Sandy can contact DiNozzi at home in the evenings at (302) 376-9255.
