  • Megan Miller of Middletown was honored with five awards during the 2012 volleyball season at Stevenson University in Maryland which won the Commonwealth Conference Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
    Miller, a 2011 graduate of St. Georges Tech, is a sophomore at Stevenson University in Maryland. She is the daughter of Mitch and Yvonne Miller of Middletown. She played volleyball at St. Georges and on the Brandywine Volleyball Club travel team.
    As a middle blocker at Stevenson University, she helped the Mustangs finish 36-3 in 2012. The 36 wins was a university record.
    At the end of the regular season, Stevenson was ranked #2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region of Division III, behind Salisbury University. There are eight regions in the country. Stevenson also received votes for the Division III Top 25 nationwide rankings.
    By winning the conference title, the Mustangs qualified for the NCAA Division III National Tournament, where they won the team's first-ever NCAA tournament game in the first round. The Mustangs defeated Neumann 3-0. In the second round, the Mustangs fell to the nation's 22nd-ranked team, Eastern — a team the Mustangs had defeated during the regular season when Eastern was ranked 19th.
    Miller's awards
    Miller was selected to the Commonwealth Conference All-Conference Second Team for the 2012 season and received Honorable Mention on the All-Region Team.
    She was also honored with the following conference, regional, and national awards following her outstanding performance Sept. 23-29:
    • Commonwealth Conference Volleyball Player of the Week;
    • Eastern College Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for Division III — South;
    • American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week, sponsored by Sports Imports. This was the first time an athlete from Stevenson University earned the Division III national award in the 19-year history of the school's volleyball program.
    During the week, Miller helped the Mustangs upset 19th-ranked Eastern, while taking 9th-ranked SUNY Cortland to five sets, as part of a 4-1 week.
    After defeating Johns Hopkins on their home court Sept. 25, Stevenson matched up with SUNY Cortland. Miller had a career-high 16 kills while hitting at a .542 percentage in the five-set loss.
    Stevenson went on to defeat FDU-Florham 3-0 and then Grove City 3-0 when Miller set a career high with five blocks.
    Then the Mustangs faced Eastern, when Miller nailed 15 kills and hit at a .565 percentage in the five-set victory. She also tied her career-high in blocks with five.
