An investigation into heroin sales conducted by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Drug Unit resulted in the seizure of a large amount of heroin, cash, and a handgun.

On the morning of January 18 Troopers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2400 block of Olden Avenue in Newark. In a bedroom occupied by Gerardo Hernandez, 19, Troopers located 4,048 bags of heroin (approximately 101.2 grams), $5,090 in cash, a .40 caliber Ruger handgun, and a loaded large-capacity rifle magazine.

Hernandez was taken into custody at the residence and transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a tier 5 quantity, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $50,000 cash bail.
