  • The Appoquinimink School District School Board Election will be May 14 this year.
    The deadline for candidates to file to run for the one at-large seat is March 1.
    The winner of the May election will serve a five year term beginning in July and ending in June 2018, with an option to run for re-election.
    This position in a volunteer position and members of the Board of Education are not paid.
    Candidates must be 18 or older and a resident of the district. District employees are not eligible to run.
    Interested parties may request a filing packet from the Department of Elections. Applications can also be found online.
    Applications must be notarized and returned no later than 4:30 p.m. March 1.
    Polls will be open May 14 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Appoquinimink Training Center, Bunker Hill Elementary School, Olive B. Loss Elementary School, Everett Meredith Middle School, Middletown High School, Old State Elementary School, Alfred G. Waters Middle School and the Townsend Early Childhood Center.
    Members of the district's Board of Education serve as a trustee for all schools in the district and represent the views of the community in matters affecting education.
    Board of Education members set policy, approve educational goals and curriculum changes, and act on recommendations of the district Superintendent.
    The Board is responsible for approving the annual budget and maintains a balanced budget at the end of each year.
    The Board of Education meets monthly and members participate regularly in workshops and training, and remain active in recognition programs, special events, and advocacy efforts.
