Celebrate great craft beer at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (147 East Main St., Newark) with their February Brewmaster's Dinner and Hopapalooza 2013.
The first event will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Head Brewer Justin Sproul and Head Chef Mike Petrilla will host a five-course beer pairing dinner, featuring hearty winter fare and full-bodied beers, for $65 per person, including beverages, tax and gratuity. Then, on Feb. 23 beginning at 2 p.m., hop-heads will come together for an all-day beer fest celebrating the hoppiest beers from some of the country's best-known craft breweries.
"Whether it's part of a memorable meal or just a delicious quaff all on its own, we always love beer and we love sharing it with our guests," Sproul said. "Our February events are two very different and exciting opportunities for people to join us and indulge in some artfully crafted ales and lagers in good company."
The menu for the Brewmaster's Dinner will include: curried sweet potato bisque with coconut crème fraiche, cilantro and peanuts, paired with Big Red One, an Imperial American red ale with caramel malt sweetness and bountiful citrus hop flavor and aroma; warm mushroom and aged cheddar salad with baby arugula, toasted walnuts and lemon-dijon vinaigrette, paired with Three Lions Pale Ale and a copper English-style pale ale hopped with classic English hops.
Thirsty for excitement
Hopapalooza on Feb. 23 will feature a wealth of hop-heavy beers, including Iron Hill favorites such as: Alpha Tripel, an American version of a classic Belgian tripel; Boulder Bank IPA, an international-style IPA brewed with domestic malt and New Zealand hops; cask-conditioned Big Red One, an imperial American red ale with caramel malt sweetness and bountiful citrus hop flavor and aroma.
There will also be English IPA, a golden ale brewed in the traditional English style; and Iron Hill India Black Ale, an American-style IPA with pronounced bitterness and a touch of roast character. Other beers will include: Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye, an IPA brewed with rye for a distinct, spicy malt profile; Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA, an aggressively hopped beer that is aged for a full year; Stone Ruination IPA, a hop monster with delicious, intensely bitter flavor and a refreshing malt base; and Elysian Immortal IPA, a Northwestern interpretation of a classic English style with golden copper color.
Beers will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis or as samples of 10.
