The Psi Iota chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity presented nearly 30 sleeping bags to be donated to homeless children and teens across the state at the Java House Coffee Shop Feb. 21.
The sleeping bag campaign collects sleeping bags for the homeless and foster children so that they have a warm place to sleep in the shelter, or just so they have something of their own, said Wendy Strauss, director of the Governor's Advisor Council for Exceptional Citizens.
Fraternity members Greg Bunkley, Regie Laster, and James Ware presented their donation at the coffee shop on Main Street here in Middletown to be added to the statewide initiative, which has so far collected more than 300 sleeping bags and more than $1,000 in cash donations.
"It's a fantastic event for a good cause," said Mark Harper, co-owner of the Java House. "We stand behind any group doing things for the people in Delaware."
The Psi Iota chapter of Omega Psi Phi is an alumni chapter with 65 active members in the Dover area, and more than 100,000 nationwide.
