  • Middletown teen charged with burglary of Middletown Village home

  • A 17-year-old Middletown boy was charged with breaking into a home and stealing several items on Feb. 26.
    At about 3 p.m., Middletown Police received a report of a burglary in the 400 block of Champs Lane in Middletown Village.
    The residents returned home to discover their front door had been forced open, police said. Several items including electronic devices and jewelry had been stolen.
    Officers were able to develop information indicating that a 17-year-old male was involved in the crime.
    Officers went to the suspect's residence in the 100 block of Sassafras Drive and found him.
    As officers were taking him into custody, he fled in handcuffs, but he was caught after a brief foot chase, police said.
    A search warrant was used at the suspect's residence, and all of the stolen items were recovered.
    The 17-year-old boy was charged with second-degree burglary, theft greater than $1,500, criminal mischief less than $1,000, and resisting arrest, police said.
    He was committed to the New Castle County Detention Facility in default of $5,100 bond to await a court appearance.
