New Castle County Police Detectives are investigating an apparent attempted murder and suicide that occurred early this morning in the community of Great Oak Farms near Middletown.
At 3:59 a.m., County Police, paramedics, and the Delaware State Police helicopter responded to the 500 block of Red Oak Drive for an apparent suicide in progress.
When police arrived, they saw an unresponsive woman who was suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body, and a man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his upper body.
The man, identified as Ellsy Musgrove, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene, New Castle County Police said.
He was the husband of the 46-year-old woman who had been shot, police said.
The woman was treated by paramedics and then transported by state police helicopter to the Christiana Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.
Investigators are conducting interviews and gathering information about the shooting. Evidence technicians responded and collected evidence that was discovered at the scene.
Ellsy Musgrove's body has been turned over to the Delaware State Medical Examiner's Office where the exact cause of death will be determined.
Police said updated information will be provided as more details related to the investigation become available.
