DELAWARE THEATRE CO. "Love, Loss, and What I Wore"

BREASTS, BUTTS, BOOTS, BRAS and (hand) BAGS.

That's what this show was about. Perhaps I missed the banner at the entrance of the theatre that alerted  "No men allowed for this performance".

The press package stated it was the intimate collection of stories by the Ephron sisters using clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and poignant stories. The show was not theatre but a staged reading, all five actors turning pages in unison as the tales were told.

Following the mission of the new Producing Artistic Director, the cast have high(er) profiles: Sabrina Le Beauf of "The Cosby Show", Dawn Wells of "Gilligan's Island", Sonia Manzano of "Sesame Street", Karyn Quackenbush of Broadway's "Annie Get Your Gun" and Erica Watson of the movie "Precious".

The opening night audience was a bit older demographic than those of the first part of the season. I am not sure they related to the reference on Madonna, among others.  Yes there were some nodding of heads as women related to some of the stories told. For the vast majority of men, there was nodding OFF.

Sonia Manzano had a smutty saga of a woman meeting her lover who was imprisoned.  I am fully cognizant of actors being able to take a variety of parts.  (That's one of the fun things about being an actor). However, I simply could not get my arms around a woman who my kids grew up with spew this crudity.  Give it to another woman or better yet, cut it.

I have been blessed in many ways. One is that my elite athlete daughter chose soccer over field hockey. Therefore I have never been obliged to sit through a contest that is whistle- stopped incessantly if a player even dares to breathe on her opponent. My friends whose daughters have chosen this sport admit it is cruel penance for having a daughter.

This show - at least for men - is the theatrical equivalent of a field hockey game.

DELAWARE STUDIO SERIES - A NEW BRAND BUT SAME STIRRING VOICES

Over the past years it has always been a wonderful experience to hear OperaDE's professionals in the intimacy of their Riverfront Studios over wine, cheese and similarly seduced opera fanatics.

Now it's to be even more intimate. Now the singers will be undressed.  Oh, apologies, that's just the new title, "Opera Undressed Studio Series" ...opera stripped down to its core element : the power and beauty of the human voice!

The first half features famous arias and duets, the second half explores the power, glory and harmony of duets, trios and ensembles.

Joining OperaDelaware's Music Director Jeffrey Miller will be Baritone Timothy Mix, Soprano Emily Ezzie, Mezzo Charlotte Paulsen, Tenors Rolando Sanz and Tim Augustin, Bass Eric Bash.

            April 5th & 6th at 7:30, April 7th at 2  OperaDelaware.org or  800.37.GRAND

Continuing the across-the-board DE performing arts theme of THE YEAR OF THE BARD, OperaDE stages MACBETH at The Grand - May 5 @2pm, May 10 @7:30 pm and May 11 @7:30
