Middletown resident Matthew C. Smith was inducted this month as the new president of the Delaware State Funeral Directors Association.
The 33-year-old co-owner of New Castle-based Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes and Crematory is a graduate of William Penn High School in New Castle and holds an associate’s degree in mortuary science from Catonsville Community College in Maryland.
Smith also is a charter member and past president of the Southern New Castle County Rotary Club based in Middletown.
Smith, who previously served as the vice president of the DSFDA, officially began his two-year term as president following a March 9 installation of officers at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, in which his father and former Spicer-Mullikin co-owner Harvey C. Smith Jr. of Odessa was inducted as secretary.
Other executive officers inducted this month include vice president Andrew T. Parsell of the Lewes-based Parsell Funeral Home and treasurer John F. Yasik III of the John F. Yasik Funeral Home in Wilmington.
