A 29-year-old Townsend man was charged with shoplifting Tuesday after reportedly stealing a television from the Walmart in Middletown.
Paul J. Markland, a resident of the 100 block of Ebenezer Church Road, is accused of taking the 32-inch Vizio television valued at $248 from the Walmart Supercenter at 705 Middletown-Road about 12:45 p.m.
Witnesses at the Walmart provided Middletown police with a description of both the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, according to Police Chief Henry Tobin.
Within minutes, an officer arrested Markland near Caldwell Corner Road after determining that both he and his vehicle matched the descriptions given by witnesses.
The television was recovered and returned to the store, Tobin said.
Markland later was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
