  • Arlene E. Banning, 83, of Middletown, DE passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 18, 2013 with her loving children by her side at Christiana Hospital in Newark.

    Born on November 14, 1929 in Odessa, DE, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Gladys (Muehlberger) Ennis.

    On July 15, 1949, she married Oakley M. Banning, Jr., a respected lawmaker and Democratic State Representative.

  • Arlene E. Banning, 83, of Middletown, DE passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 18, 2013 with her loving children by her side at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
    Born on November 14, 1929 in Odessa, DE, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Gladys (Muehlberger) Ennis.
    On July 15, 1949, she married Oakley M. Banning, Jr., a respected lawmaker and Democratic State Representative.   
    Arlene worked as a clerk for the Justice of the Peace Court 9 where she dedicated 25 years of service.
    During her retirement years, she enjoyed shopping, vacationing and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.  She cherished her family and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Oak Banning in 1997 and a loving granddaughter, Heather “Lovey” Massey in 2012.
    Arlene leaves many wonderful and fond memories to her seven children, affectionately known to her as the seven B’s, Kenneth Banning (Joyce), Terry Banning (Dawn), Debra Immediato (Ronnie), Ronnie Banning (Diane), Nanette Massey (John), Robin Banning and Steve Banning; sister, Nancy Walsh (Jim); nephew, Jeff Guseman;15 wonderful grandchildren ; 20 special great-grandchildren, as well as many dear friends and neighbors.
    Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 23 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with her family from 12:00-1:30 pm.  Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her loving husband.
