  • Michael Callaway Schuller, 62, of Middletown, DE passed away in his home on March 16, 2013 after a long battle with cancer, which he graciously referred to as his “uninvited co-traveler” for the last five years of life.
    Born on October 18, 1950 in Exeter, NH, Mike was the son of the late Thomas C. Schuller of Beirut, Lebanon and Hannah Lawrence Schuller of Cambridge, MA.  The eldest of five children, Mike grew up in Scarborough, NY and Beirut, Lebanon before attending the Wooster School in Danbury, CT and Yale University, class of 1973.  Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Candace, their four daughters, Carrie, Amy, Megan and Casey, two sons-in-law, Ryan Callahan and Mark Hitchcock, and their grandson, Jack. He also leaves behind his mother, four siblings and many nieces and nephews.
    Mike worked at St. Andrew’s School for the last 15 years of his career as the CFO and Director of Institutional Planning.  Previously he served as the CFO of The Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA and as President of Bank Meridian in New Hampshire.  Mike was a past President of the Association of Business Officers of Preparatory Schools (ABOPS), on the board of the National Board of Business Officers Association (NBOA), and an active member of the Philadelphia Association of Independent School Business Officers (PAISBOA).  He was an avid supporter of the United Way and Relay for Life. Mike led by example, believing deeply in giving back to his community.
    Mike spent every summer of his life in Southwest Harbor, Maine, where he loved to hike the trails of Acadia National Park, golf and sail.
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 1:30 pm at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the tax deductible charitable foundation established by Mike Schuller called the “Rumphius Foundation”.  If you choose to remember him in this way, please make a check out to Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund and send it c/o Schuller to 384 Noxontown Road, Townsend DE 19734.
