Anybody who's traveled north on U.S. Route 13 has probably noticed the sign at Frightland indicating that the Delaware Mud Run Jr is coming up. The registration deadline is fast approaching for six to 13-year-olds who want to participate.

For the third year in a row, kids from six to 13 years old will race and raise money for the Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware in the Delaware Mud Run Jr. Last year, more than 1,000 children participated in the event

This year's race will take place at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 on the grounds of Frightland, a popular Halloween destination and home to the Delaware Mud Run for adults.

Unlike the adult 5K race, the children's race stretches for only 1.5 miles and includes a muddy obstacle course that has been adjusted to fit the skill level of children.

The run will be divided into four age groups: ages 6-7, ages 8-9, ages 10-11 and ages 12-13. Each group will take off in waves. The adult race requires participants to fundraise and compete in teams. For the Mud Run Jr., the kids are not required to fundraise or compete in teams; however, they are welcome team up on the course. Last year, for children that did fundraise, prizes were available including t-shirts, an iPhone 4S, an iPod Touch and a Kindle. Information hasn't been announced if prizes will be available this year.

Registration will be open through Friday, May 31 and costs $25 per child. There will be no registration the day of the race.

Information about packet pick-up dates has not yet been announced.
