Townsend residents have until 4 p.m. Thursday to file their candidacy for one of three town council seats up for election next month.
The seats currently held by Karen Jennings, John Ness and Dwain Haines are up for election May 4.
The top three vote-getters in the municipal election will win office.
To be eligible to seek office, candidates must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens and a resident of the town for at least 90 days. Candidates also must file a petition with the signatures of at least 10 town residents and submit necessary paper work to Town Hall by the filing deadline.
Voters must be 18, a U.S. citizen and have lived in town or legally owned property in Townsend for 90 consecutive days prior to the election. Voters also must register in advance to cast a ballot in the town election.
Those eligible to vote in the town election can register at Town Hall, 661 South St., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays up until 4 p.m. on Friday, April 19.
The town also will hold special weekend and evening voter registration hours from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 6 and from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 17.
