  • Virginia “Ginny” A. Emerson, 58, of Townsend, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home.
Ginny was born on February 16, 1955 to Roland C. Faulkner and Elizabeth A. Faulkner of Middletown, DE.  After leaving Middletown to obtain her Early Education degree from Millersville University, she returned in 1977 to marry the love of her life and begin a lengthy thirty-two year teaching career in the Appoquinimink School District.  Initially, she taught fourth grade and was a librarian and reading specialist prior to discovering the position that she excelled at for 20 years:  kindergarten teacher.  She touched around a thousand children’s lives with her impressions of Julia Childs, making gingerbread houses, her love of books and Monarch butterflies, and her general passion for learning and life.
Ginny’s love for teaching and children was trumped only by her love for God and her family (including many close friends).  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and friend who always delighted in doing little things for the people she cared about in her life.  She was a shining example of courage under fire and unwavering trust in God in the past seventeen months as she dealt with circumstances beyond her control with grace and dignity.
Ginny is survived by her husband of 35 years, W. Edward Emerson, her two daughters, Lauren Grieder and husband Jeff Grieder of Bear, DE, Christy Bennett and husband Tim Bennett of Phoenixville, PA, grandchildren Caroline, Jane, Brooks, and soon-to-be Baby Grieder, siblings Susanne Faulkner of Middletown, Stephen Faulkner and wife Deborah of Middletown, Rebecca Manelski and husband Robert of Newport, DE, Elizabeth  “Beth” Bingaman and husband John “Bing” of Reading, PA,  Jason Faulkner and wife Susan of Middletown, and best friend Cynthia McCauley of Middletown.  In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and former students.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 6, at 7pm in Middletown Baptist Church, 419 Armstrong Corner Road, Middletown, DE.  Friends may call Saturday from 5pm-7pm at the church prior to the service.  Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 11 Independence Way, Newark, DE 19713 in honor of the exceptional service Ginny was provided by her nurse Stephanie and aide Ann or to LifeHouse Church, P.O.Box 108, Townsend, DE 19734-0108.
