  • Polytech HS opened with a four goal outburst over host Appoquinimink on a cold and dreary Friday afternoon on the way to defeating the host Lady Jaguars 15-8 in non-conference girls' lacrosse.
The Lady Panthers' fast-paced offense was difficult for the Lady Jaguars to contain throughout the afternoon.
Despite the wet conditions, Polytech's offense was in high gear from start to finish. The Panthers are averaging more tha 17 goals per game.
The score moved to 5-1, then 8-2 before Appo got on the board again. The Jags scored two consecutive goals to close the gap to 8-4 at 5:32 of the first half. By halftime, though, Polytech built a 10-4 lead.
During the contest, the Panthers showed lots of speed all through the lineup, good stick handling, and quick, accurate passing, a tough combination for the Jaguars to handle. Polytech was also adept at finding the open wingers, who were able to get in great positions for easy, high percentage shots.
Polytech's defense was also quick and strong and were able to clear Appo players from in the from Panther goal keeper Lyons.
In the second half, Appo picked up their defense and slowed down the Panther attack, but could not muster enough offense to get back into the contest. Polytech outscored the Jags 5-4 in the second half to win the game by a safe margin.
Polytech's Stang scored five goals and an assist, while Jorden Dennis scored four goals, and Jamie Trabudo made a key contribution with two goals and four assists. The 4-0 Panthers will host Caravel Academy on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Delaney Chrisco tallied five goals for Appoquinimink and Briana Doyle scored twice.Goalkeeper Marissa Parker recorded 11 saves on the day. The 2-1 Jags were scheduled to play Caravel Academy and Sussex Tech earlier this week. Their next home game is Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against St. Thomas More.
