Appoquinimink senior Amanda Weiner scored two second-half goals to lead the Lady Jaguars to a 2-0 road victory over Middletown HS last Wednesday afternoon.
With the victory, the Jaguars improved their season record to 10-1, while the Lady Cavaliers absorbed their fourth loss of the season, compared with six victories.
The first half was a well-played chess match, with neither team having many scoring oppportunities. Both defenses played very well, denying their opponents any chances for rebounds.
In the second half, Appoquinimink began to take more control of the game and established some dominance on the field. The offense finally broke through, as Meghan McGrath fed Amanda Weiner for the first Cavalier goal of the game in the 61st minute.
Minutes later, Weiner scored her second goal of the half in the 75th minute on another great feed, this time from Kelsey McGrath.
Middletown goalkeeper Caitlin McCoy had a busy day, turning aside 11 shots on goal.
At the other end, Appoquinimink goalkeeper Haley Wahrhaftig stopped five Cavalier shots.
Middletown will play William Penn at home on Monday, followed by a game against A.I. DuPont on Wednesday. Both games will begin a3:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Cavaliers will travel to Wilmington to face Tower Hill.
Appoquinimink will play A. I. DuPont on Monday at 5:30 p.m., and then they will take on St. Marks at home on Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m.
